Now whenever I am forced to talk to these people, I often find out they aren't from Boston or New York. Like LeBron James with his Yankee hat. He is from Ohio, plays basketball in Cleveland and wears a Yankee hat to the Indians Yankees NLCS game. LeBron has no right to root for the Yankees. He's a front runner. Take the many kids you find at GW walking around in North Carolina gear.

If you aren't from somewhere, don't root for the teams from there. Now there are some exceptions which I have outlined below, but if you are from Long Island and root for UNC because you like the powder blue uniforms or Manchester United because you saw them on ESPN once get a life. When your team wins don't act like you've won something. People who feel good after picking the best team in a league and then feel satisfied after seeing that team win should be banned from sports viewing.

Exceptions for Sports Dual Citizenship

Family Ties- I don't support it, but I'll allow it. "My dad is a big fan of the...." I get it, you were indoctrinated. It's not your fault. Just like it's not Matt Damon's fault in Good Will Hunting.

Transient Childhood- You bounced around a lot as a kid and never really had a home. So you formed a bond with the teams from a city to which you no longer have ties. Another possible case is your parents split and lived in different cities, giving you a skewed set of teams.

Relocation/Statute of Limitations- You have moved into a new city have lived there for a number of years, no less than 5, and have a new conception of where "home" is and have adopted a new crew. If you live somewhere and that local team which you are not a fan of is on tv a lot you can get loyal observer status. It's a form of sports fan purgatory before the statute of limitations expires and you can become a full fledged fan.

Rural area- You don't have a main major city you live near so you root for teams from a variety of surrounding areas.

Missing major sports- Your city is a market that does not have teams from all of the NBA NFL MLB and NHL and you adopt a team from another market. For example you are from Portland and you root for the San Francisco Giants.

Pathetic Excuses

"I've just always liked them..." Yeah because they were good, and you have no balls to take on a team that isn't all rings

If your parent is a front runner, and that tradition goes down to you, you are still a front runner.

"I was a big fan of... growing up" Just because you liked a certain player growing up doesn't give you an excuse to hop on the team's bandwagon. You can be a fan of a player and not a team. You may notice that most of the scores of kids who were big fans of Ken Griffey Jr. from outside Seattle are no longer fans of the Mariners. And those that are, well they've endured enough years of subpar baseball that I'll give them a free pass.

Final Note: If you choose to root for a terrible team at random when they are still bad and follow them closely that's okay. You'll struggle enough to understand the value of winning and when your team wins you'll truly feel like you've won something.

Half Jewish Sports Mock Draft

Welcome to the HJS Mock Draft for 2010. My head did not spin, and my body did not begin to shake. No longer can the world of college basketball surprise me anymore when hearing the news of coaches being hired and hired and hired again.

The question still remains: how many times must a coach screw up before he never gets another opportunity to do it again. In the wonderful world of college basketball, that question undeniably has no answer.

Floyd, by his own admission, is "not very good at [coaching]." Yes those are his words after being fired from his New Orleans Hornets gig. Floyd's time in the NBA left him with a career record of 93-235. Yet after mild success with Iowa State, New Orleans (the University) & Idaho, the Southern California Trojans selected Floyd to replace departed head man Rick Majerus who left after just five days on the job.

Maybe big ol' Ricky knew what was going on at USC. Or maybe he just plain didn't like those In N Out burgers in SoCal, but the bright lights of ESPN grabbed him, and just like that Floyd received another opportunity. Yet after a couple of mediocre seasons in Southern California, the questions began to mount for Floyd who was overseeing a program that would be done in by runners and illegalities that most likely occur at a vast number of high-major programs.

There is the naive person who will claim that Floyd had no knowledge of these happenings, and there is the overly critical approach that states Floyd knew everything that was taking place between one Rodney Guillory and another Ovinton J'anthony Mayo. The truth most likely lies somewhere in-between, but it made USC's inept athletic director Mike Garrett force Floyd to resign in June of 2009. Comically enough, Floyd cited "a loss of enthusiasm for coaching" as the reason for his resignation.

For those keeping score, the firing from USC became the third of Floyd's career; one that features 16 seasons as a college coach without advancing a team past the Sweet 16. When you combine that mediocrity with his supposed lack of enthusiasm to coach and his admission that he just isn't good at the darn coaching thing, well one might assume that good ol' Timmy was just about done coaching this sport.

Yet, this isn't the real world.

This isn't Wall Street where one mistake could land you blacklisted from any investment firm in the country. This isn't the Government where a wrong move could put you in jail. This is college basketball, where an admonished drunk who has been arrested three times for DUI's has become the front runner to take over at Houston University, a program that just removed its former coach who's had his fair share of allegation and scandal as well.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_m0ZebHNQIbQ/S7KxioUXWRI/AAAAAAAAAA4/OrWK9UdQZ4w/s320/gillispie.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454617307195595026"/>

Maybe Floyd is the answer? Perhaps he will continue the success left by the now departed Tony Barbee, and keep the Miners right atop Conference-USA (they lose no one from a team that went 26-7). But maybe the more important question is: does he deserve the chance to do so?

Part II will come out later this week chronicling another recently hired College Basketball Coach

Cristal, Lady Gaga, Jay Z, Perry the Upset Slut and the Case for Keeping March Madness at 65

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IzAm8OGQpdg/S5x_N7o7tiI/AAAAAAAAAAs/d8fvX2CqiMk/s320/LunardiFlintMartelliHenderson+034.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448369526535861794" />
What makes the big dance so special? Pretend it’s the greatest party of your life that you would have no business attending otherwise. Let’s say you are invited to spend New Years with Jay-Z, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Bono, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and a host of other characters that anyone who reads this blog is not nearly cool enough to hang out with. Now imagine you RSVP, a driver comes and picks you up from the airport—that’s right, your so damn awesome a score of mega celebrities paid for you to fly to LA’s most exclusive club first class so you could get wasted on with them on Cristal (Note: I’m not sure if this is how you properly spell Cristal, Chrystal Crystal, Khrystal, because I’ve never nor will I likely ever drink it). Anyway the party is everything you hoped for; it is a historic moment in the timeline that is your existence. You converse with LeBron and Jay-Z about the 2010 free agent period. You make out sloppily with Lady Gaga in the corner while Tiger Woods yells, “this dude is like a young me, before my entire legacy unraveled!!!” You think Lady Gaga really likes you, she seems to lead you on, but rebuffs your effort to have her accompany you back to your suite in the really nice hotel your staying in that puts chocolate mint candies on the pillow. (THAT DAMN POKER FACE!!!!)

This is the greatest night of your life, but you earned your right to go to the party of the century. You busted your ass all season long, played a ridiculously hard non-conference schedule, took shit from Joe Lunardi, who looks like an elf and has never played more than five seconds of basketball without reaching for an inhaler. You took care of business in the conference season, sure there were a couple of questionable losses, but those were on the road. Seriously, road games are hard. You did reasonably well against the RPI top 50 and beat Kansas State in the Trojan Condoms Aruba Preseason Slam Jam. That’s a damn good win, especially when you count the Frank Martin scariness factor. Anyway, you go to the Big Dance win in the first round game, but get bounced in the second by the two seed. It’s ok. Evan Turner is superhuman.

The following year you make it back, but now the party isn’t so exclusive. There aren’t just 65 special guests along with the host of celebrity invites; there are almost one hundred of you. You can’t find Jay-Z, or anyone else worth talking to because the super exclusive club is too crowded. You can’t move. It’s overkill. It’s not fun. Why even come? The party last year was so perfect, now your rewarded with some overcrowded crap. What is this NBA? Are we inviting everyone to the playoffs? Is this fourth grade recess where we have to let everyone play? Do we all get participation awards? (Note: Participation awards are for losers, if you are proud of receiving a participation award kill yourself. Seriously.) Half of these teams had sub .500 conference records. You don’t want to party with them. Fucking losers. They belong at home.

The point is there is a feeling of exclusivity and accomplishment in making the field of 65. When you invite 96 teams the tournament is cheapened. You can say true basketball fans want more teams, more games to watch, an extension of the unofficial holiday that is March Madness. True college hoops junkies want the best competition to be on the floor. They want to see upsets and when they do happen for them to actually mean something. They don’t want the field to be watered down. I don’t want to have the 15-2 match be corrupted because the 15 now has to play 17-14 UConn and may likely not make it to the real first round at all. Now there is no official format for this theoretical expansion so you can’t make up formats that would give berth to different scenarios, but expansion just turns the tournament into a clusterfuck of mediocrity. I know proponents of expansion (Perry, see his previous blog post below) say they watch the tournament to see upsets, not who wins the championship and I understand that idea. However if you make the tournament so large to force the upsets it cheapens the upset. You’re an upset slut Perry!! You should have to work for the upset. Pursue it. Take it out to dinner. Get to know it. You can’t just have a ton of extra teams show up and try to force glass slippers onto their feet.

Now I know some people say expansion would kill the NIT and they have a point, but I’m not taking that angle because the NIT sucks and I don’t watch it now with 65 teams. However the conference tournaments would die. The week before selection Sunday is so super fantastic. We get to listen to Raftery Bilas and Shulman at 1 pm on a Friday or on the deuce you can check out Baylor, Texas A&M and the Knight Musberger sweater brigade. This year we have seen teams like Minnesota, Notre Dame, even Rhode Island when they beat St. Louis play with a sense of urgency, intensity that brought their level of play to a new level. This quality of basketball would disappear in the conference tournaments would disappear because any team with a legitimate chance of making an unexpected run to play themselves into the tournament in the Big East or Big Ten would be in the field of 96 already. I don’t want college basketball to turn into the NBA where we have teams dog it for two thirds of the regular season and just play hard at the end. If it aint broke don’t fix it. March Madness rules. Simply making it is something special for many schools. March Madness is so great it makes the gayest award ever mean something. The big dance is the greatest party in the world. Why? Because we’d all kill to just get a participation award. If there were 96 teams I wouldn’t want it.

Also filling out the bracket would be killer. We’d all have to go to kinkos and get special elongated paper just to fit all the teams on.

Lebron, Boy Bands, and Basketball

Much speculation has been made over the past year over where Lebron James will head in the summer of 2010. Will he stay in Cleveland? Will he play in New York? Will he challenge the Monstars in an intergalactic rematch to prove once and for all he can stretch his arm farther than Michael Jordan and is therefore a better player? Quite honestly, people won’t stop speculating on where he will goes until he finally makes his decision, so we at Half Jewish Sports can only join hypothesizing how this free agency madhouse of a summer will all turn out. While teams and corporate sponsors can throw buckets of money his way and make his the most highly marketed and recognizable athlete of all time, the best thing for Lebron could do for career is stay in Cleveland, where he could win multiple championships around a core of players that has been brought together for one reason, the ultimate boy band of basketball.

Yes, I just referred to the Cleveland Cavaliers as a boy band. Boy bands are extremely similar to basketball teams than one normally assumes. Most obviously, any decent boy band has 5 members by definition (I firmly believe that the parents of the Hanson children ruined their son’s chances of success by not producing 2 more male children). Instead of a one hit wonder MMMbop could have launched an extremely successful music career. Consider the 5 boy band members the starters and the random backup dancers and etc to be their bench. In every boy band and NBA team, there is a tough one/enforcer (think Chris Andersen or A.J. of the Backstreet Boys). In addition, boy bands put us on a show that makes us cheer, makes teenager girls scream in desire, and most importantly, makes us wonder how great they can truly be before imploding into complete disarray and self destruction within an 18 month time frame. (Obvious similarities Kobe/Shaq and David Ruffin being so coked out he gets kicked out of the Temptations…the greatest boy band of all time).

While these other characteristics are similar to other NBA teams, none is more similar to the Cavs than the star member every boy band must have to make it big. You know, the one who makes the girls scream even louder, the one who works the crowd even more, and the one who could possibly become bigger than the band itself. Instant examples that come to mind, Michael of the Jackson 5, Justin of NSYNC, and of course Lebron of the Cavs. While the other members of the team/band may be important to the success of the star there, everyone around the stars knows they wouldn’t be anything without him.
And of course, one may say, “Jackson and Timberlake had incredible solo careers, if they can do it with their teams, why can’t Lebron go solo and be just as big as he is now if not even BIGGER. Of course, there is the obvious risk involved. For every JT, there is a Nick Lachey who thinks they are good as JT only to accomplish nothing else with their career except a stupid short lived marriage/reality show with Jessica Simpson. Of course, if Lebron leaves Cleveland, he won’t be alone on the court. But the team who brings him in will likely have to throw so much money at him that he will have little to no talent around him minus 1 more big name. Picture a boy band with only 3 members, and maybe 1 or 2 backup dancers, they may be able to do a few cool dance moves every once in a while, but no way in hell would you rather go see that band as opposed to an NSYNC or New Kids on the Block in their prime.

The fact is this Cavs team has created and is committed to giving Lebron a supporting cast than can compete and win championships on a year in/year out basis. There is a very little chance than this scenario can be recreated in another city/team. Even if he is paired with a Wade or a Bosh, either star combined would take up about half the team payroll, leaving very little money to give them 3 other decent members in their new dream team of a boy band. I want Lebron to succeed. I want him to win enough championships to get in the greatest player of all time and I only see that scenario happening if Lebron stays in Cleveland. As great as Justin Timberlake’s solo career has been, no one will ever convince me that he will ever make better music than he did with NSYNC on the No String Attached album (Go find it, I Know the majority of you have this album) Hopefully Lebron decided to be the star of a great boy band instead of a solo artist, and that is what will make him larger than life.

The Case for 96

Tell me why someone who loves college basketball and especially loves March Madness would not want to see an extra round of games. You cannot give me a real reason. "It would destroy the integrity of the tournament!" I was unaware there was any integrity. I watch these games to see upsets or to see my own bracket succeed. I personally have no ties to any college basketball team other than GW but I am realist when I say that we will never be a perennial tournament team. Unless something were to happen that could change that. Something along the lines of increasing the tournament teams from 65 to 96. If you go to this school and count yourself as one of the seven fans of this basketball team, then you should without a doubt be a fan of a larger tournament. I personally have now seen three seasons of GW basketball without a single conference tournament win. And I don't expect to see them be one of the top 65 teams next year. But 96? I actually do think that they could reach that level. They could have this year if some of the games in conference play went a little differently. Am I being selfish for wanting to see my college basketball team, the only college sports team that I actually care about, be just a little more successful. Maybe, but I don't think so. Because if that makes me selfish, that makes every other fan who roots for a team that is not one of the best consistently.

When a team from a smaller conference makes the tournament, the conference gets a certain amount of money and distributes it throughout the conference. The more teams from a conference that make it, the more money the teams get. Tell me how that can be a bad thing. We all know that there are a very select few teams that have a chance to win the tournament in any given year. And that isn't very interesting. I and many others are far more interested in seeing the first two rounds and the upsets that go with it. So if we were to give the top 32 teams (or 31 conference champions plus the best seeded team that did not win their tournament) a bye into the second round and have 33-96 play each other, you would basically be creating an extra game in the first weekend. You would be weeding out the "contenders" from the "pretenders" in the tournament. None of these teams have a chance to win. But you could say that about most teams in the current 65. The point is, they get a chance to play their way into the tournament. You'd still have upsets and when a team like George Mason makes it to the Final Four (admittedly not a very likely scenario) it would be even more of an accomplishment.

This is about fairness, and yes, about money. The increased money for schools and conferences that would not normally get a chance would be a welcome benefit for schools like the A-10 and GW. And as a GW fan, I really cannot complain. The best schools would be uneffected, the lesser schools would get a chance and everyone would get to see extra tournament basketball. I say, once again, tell me where the problem is.

Today's show 3/4

We once again bring you an absolutely jam-packed show on this 4th of March. I’m just glad my cousins from New York got to me early and made me a Giants fan. However, I feel empathetic for my dad- The one who raised me, played catch in the backyard with me, took me to games, all the while rooted for his Jets, maintaining hope that the his beloved team would return to the glory days when Broadway Joe and his AFC powerhouse triumphed over the Baltimore Colts. Sadly this franchise has faltered since that epic year in 1969. Thus, last years’ emotional rollercoaster once again captivated Jet faithful. “Maybe they’ve turned it around?” the fans thought. As usual, the 6-2 contenders found their way into a season-ending tailspin.

But why do they always fall short? Firstly this organization has failed develop talent internally. Because of the salary cap and increasing salary, all the top teams mold a core of young draft picks into impact players who know the system from day one. However, since winning the Super Bowl 40 years ago, only 23 of their draft picks have been selected to the Pro Bowl team. 13 of these players have earned the honor in the past 10 years, including 7 last year. As a result, the front office has relied greatly on free agency. This organization has also lacked winners. Especially in the past decade, this team has struggled in the clutch. Their most recent collapse just last year was characterized as a failed QB experiment. Needless to say their famed acquisition didn’t work out in their Fav-re. In the 2003 playoffs, Herm Edwards and his squad rumbled into Oakland after their rout the Colts, 41-0. After fighting as even battle in the first half, the men in the green and white gave up 20 unanswered points and lost 30-10. Although this defeat was disappointing, the 1999 meltdown in which a 10-0 third quarter lead dissipated in a tragic loss to Denver epitomizes the Jets’ postseason woes. In any case, the underlying factor is lack of youth and winners. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but apparently the Jets have a hard time understanding the fundamentals of running a football team. Keyshawn Johnson, Kevin Mawae, and Brett Favre are not leaders around which you build a team.

Will the Jets finally conquer their most elusive goal-winning a Super Bowl? I think they can. Their coaching staff headed by Rex Ryan seems to have instilled a new life and chemistry in the team. The addition of veteran free agents such as Bart Scott, Kris Jenkins, Alan Faneca, Thomas Jones, and the mid-season signing of Braylon Edwards has provided talent, leadership, and passion. Moreover they have done a very good job of drafting and developing impact players in recent years like Revis, Mangold, Fergeson, Harris, Cotchery, Rhodes, Washington and more. Then again, reflecting upon the childhood memories of my dad pacing methodically in front of the T.V. and watching his jeers turn to tears, I may be a victim of the cruel trap that is the New York Jets.

Episode 6: HJS

Welcome back from what I hope was a fun-filled Columbus Day Weekend. At just above 6’2” and 220 lbs. Stafford comes into the league with a similar stature to a former SEC Quarterback in Jay Cutler. In my mind, Stafford projects out in a similar manner to Cutler. He has a very strong arm that is accurate on most throws. Stafford at times can get himself into trouble by forcing throws into receivers. The Lions will take the same route the Falcons did year ago by drafting Stafford here at #1 and an offensive-lineman at pick # 20.

SHOULD TAKE: I am a believer that the Lions should take Wake Forest Linebacker Aaron Curry with the first pick. While Culpepper is definitely not the answer to saving the Lions, I’m not sure any single player truly makes the Lions that much better. Curry can step in on day one and become a leader in the middle of the defense. A trio of Ernie Simms, Curry, and Paris Lenon could give the Lions a young group of talented linebackers. Recently signed free agent Ryan Neece could be used in passing downs. While an offensive tackle also makes sense here, the Lions drafted Gosder Cherilus last year at RT and have a starter at LT in Jeff Backus who has not missed a start in his eight year NFL career.

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Jason Smith, Trade Down

#2 St. Louis Rams University of Virginia OL Eugene Monroe
Monroe or Smith – Smith or Monroe, either way both Marc Bulger and Steven Jackson will be very happy to see the Rams upgrade their offensive line. At the combine Monroe measured 6’5” 309 and did 23 reps on the bench. Monroe comes from a University of Virginia program that has recently produced such O-Lineman as D’Brickshaw Ferguson and Branden Albert, and rumor has it NFL execs feel Monroe has better technique than both of those mentioned. Monroe is large and strong, but also very athletic and plenty capable of reaching the second-level on blocks. Monroe is ready to step in at LT and replace released veteran Orlando Pace.

SHOULD TAKE: Eugene Monroe

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Jason Smith

#3 Kansas City Chiefs University of Texas DE Brian Orakpo
The Chiefs have acquired linebackers Mike Vrabel, Zach Thomas, and Monty Beisel this off-season and with Derrick Johnson, Demorrio Williams and Tamba Hali already on the roster I see the Chiefs passing on Aaron Curry. The Chiefs were dead last in the NFL a year ago with only 10 sacks and Turk McBride, Tank Tyler, and Glenn Dorsey currently occupying spots on the D-Line, the Chiefs would be getting a big upgrade in Orakpo. Orakpo finished 2008 with 11.5 sacks and 17.5 TFL. Orakpo can step in and be rush-end opposite of Glenn Dorsey.

SHOULD TAKE: Orakpo

OTHER POSSIBILITY: Jason Smith, Aaron Curry, Michael Crabtree

#4 Seattle Seahawks University of Baylor OT Jason Smith
With Jason Smith, the Seahawks walk away with a player who some feel could go #1 to Detroit. As a former tight end, Smith is athletic and light on his feet. He also plays powerful and can pass protect very well. With Walter Jones coming off of an injury and entering his 14th year, Smith can step in as the Seahawks part ways with Jones. Jim Mora is too fond of Hasselback to select Sanchez here and with the addition of Houshmanzadeh they can comfortably pass on Crabtree. Aaron Curry would be an interesting pick here as well, but with unknown skills as a pass-rusher, I see the Seahawks playing it safe and adding the big beef up front.

SHOULD TAKE: Smith or Monroe

OTHER POSSIBILITY: Aaron Curry

#5 Cleveland Browns Texas Tech University WR Michael Crabtree
Braylon Edwards will likely be gone by the start of the season and it is unlikely Donte Stallworth will be thinking about playing football this season, that leaves David Patten, Josh Cribbs, and Snydric Steptoe as the Browns top three receivers. Needless to say, the Browns and Brady Quinn could use some targets to throw the ball to.

SHOULD TAKE: Michael Crabtree

OTHER POSSIBILITIES: Curry

#6 Cincinnati Bengals University of Alabama OT Andre Smith
If there were any team in the league that would take the shenanigans of Andre Smith, it would be the Bengals. The Bengals finished ’08 with an offensive line that was beyond bad (29th run / 30th pass). They lost a starting tackle from a year ago (this might be a good thing) and Levi Jones missed six games a year ago, they need help in a lot of places, but Smith fills a need and protecting Carson Palmer is always a good idea.

SHOULD TAKE: Smith

OTHER POSSIBILITIES: Any player with a criminal past.

#7 Oakland Raiders University of Maryland WR Darrius Heyward-Bey
Mr. Bey, welcome to the Bay Area. Al Davis loves one thing more than anything, speed. Heyward-Bey is the fastest receiver in the draft and at 6’2” is a bigger target than Missouri wideout Jeremy Maclin. Heyward-Bey is still somewhat raw, but I see him being the type of guy that Davis falls in love with.

SHOULD TAKE: B.J. Raji
The Raiders gave up an average of 160 yards on the ground a game last year, needless to say that’s bad. Raji is above all else a HUGE man who can take up two blockers inside. Raji reminds me of a Marcus Stroud type, and if he were able to play next to Gerrard Warren, I think the Raiders defense would be improved.

OTHER POSSIBILITIES: Raji, Maclin

#8 Jacksonville Jaguars Wake Forest University LB Aaron Curry
The Jaguars under Jack Del Rio took a step backwards with a disappointing season. The loss of Marcus Stroud hurt the team’s ability to stop the run and now the loss of Mike Peterson leaves room for someone like Aaron Curry to step in right away and make a big impact. Jack Del Rio would love to have a guy like Curry to run his defense. Curry is extremely intelligent on the field and uses his instincts to make plays against both the run and the pass. The Jags used two picks last year in Quentin Groves and Derrick Harvey to rush the passer; this would make Curry’s lack of experience rushing the passer more acceptable. The Jaguars will likely have their phone ringing constantly as teams look to acquire this pick in an attempt to draft Mark Sanchez.

SHOULD TAKE: Curry

OTHER POSSIBILITY: Mark Sanchez, B.J. Raji

#9 Green Bay Packers Boston College DT B.J. Raji
With the Packers and DC Dom Capers planning a switch to the 3-4, the Packers will almost certainly look to acquire either an outside rush-end or a monster in the middle. With Brian Orakpo gone, I see the Packers going for the man in the middle than can take up space with the best of them. At 6’1” 330, Raji is a space-eater who can free up linebackers behind him. I think the Packers can find quality rush-ends in round 2 whereas no one measures up to what Raji brings.

SHOULD TAKE: Raji

OTHER POSSIBILITIES: Tyson Jackson, Aaron Maybin

#10 San Francisco 49’ers University of Southern California QB Mark Sanchez
A California boy to a California team, Sanchez heads up north to take over a team that missed on Alex Smith several years ago and has had erratic QB play ever since. Despite only being a starter at USC for one year, he has the arm strength to make it in the NFL. He is clearly the #2 QB in this class and the 49’ers would be wise to select him here. They could look to go for a defensive-end to pair with Justin Smith, if they go this route look for Florida State University DE Everette Brown. In addition, the team could use a wide-out with game breaker ability, this could also land Jeremy Maclin in San Fran.

SHOULD TAKE: Sanchez

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Everette Brown, Jeremy Maclin

#11 Buffalo Bills University of Mississippi OT Michael Oher
With the recent trade of tackle Jason Peters to the Eagles, the Bills have a large hole to fill. While the Bills also have a need at defensive end, the drop off after Oher is too big to pass up. Oher is a strong and physically gifted lineman who started four years at Ole Miss without missing a game. Oher’s nasty on the field yet quiet and driven off the field. He is a hard worker who can step in at left tackle immediately. This pick will allow the Bills to focus on a pressure rush-end with their second first round pick later in the round.

SHOULD TAKE: Oher or any of Smith, Smith, Monroe

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Aaron Maybin

#12 Denver Broncos Penn State University DE Aaron Maybin
Like the Packers picking at #9, the Broncos are also making the transition to the 3-4 defense. The Broncos defense has kept them from being successful the past few seasons and with Jay Cutler now out of town, the team will have trouble winning games with their offense. Maybin is a bit undersized, but has tremendous speed for a defensive end. At 20 years old, he’s a bit young, but still has room to grow. For now, Maybin could be a designated rush-end or an outside backer.

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Brian Cushing

#13 Washington Redskins Florida State University DE Everette Brown
With a 4.66 40 speed, Everette Brown can bring pressure on opposing quarterbacks. After breaking the bank to sign Albert Haynseworth this off-season it would make sense to add another lineman to reach the quarterback. With Andre Carter at one end and Philip Daniels currently at the other end, Brown’s explosiveness makes him a viable option at this spot in the draft.

SHOULD TAKE: Brown

OTHER POSSIBILITIES: Tyson Jackson, Robert Ayers

#14 New Orleans Saints The Ohio State University CB Malcolm Jenkins
The Saints currently only have one pick in the first three rounds and their biggest weakness appears to their secondary. At Ohio State, Jenkins was a lockdown corner who was very physical against opposing wide receivers. He’s a sure tackler but technique can break down at times. At the combine struggled with his 40 and their remains question his overall speed.

SHOULD TAKE: Jenkins

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Chris Wells, Tyson Jackson

#15 Houston Texans University of Southern California LB Clay Matthews
I would be very surprised if the Texans did not select a USC Linebacker with this pick. As of now I believe Matthews is the guy because of his non-stop motor that allows him to be one of the top blitzing linebackers in the draft. Uncle Bruce Matthews is currently a coach on the Texans and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Texans went with Matthews over Cushing for that reason. If Matthews were paired with Demecco Ryans in the middle, the Texans defense would be set at linebacker for many years to come.

SHOULD TAKE: Brian Cushing
OTHER POSSIBILIES: Cushing, Tyson Jackson, Robert Ayers

#16 San Diego Chargers Louisianna State University DE Tyson Jackson
The Chargers defense failed to get pressure on the quarterback last year and it created some troubles in the secondary. The team gets Merriman back at linebacker and signed Kevin Burnett to play a middle-backer position. The team did lose Igor Olashansky from the D-line and this creates a spot for an impact player like Tyson Jackson. At 6’4” and nearly 300 lbs, he has the size to play a defensive end position in the 3-4 system. In addition, his power and bust will be a nice compliment on the outside of a guy like Jamal Williams who demands a double team. Putting Jackson in front of Phillips and Merriman should help the Chargers pressure the quarterback this year.

SHOULD TAKE: Jackson

OTHER POSSIBILITIES: Chris Wells, Brian Cushing, Robert Ayers

#17 New York Jets Kansas State University QB Josh Freeman
Kellen Clemens and Brett Ratliff just don’t cut it as starting quarterbacks in the NFL. At 6’5” 250 and possessing a rocket arm, Josh Freeman has the making of a big time quarterback. In a sense, he is similar to a Jamarcus Russell who went #1 overall, the difference between the two was the talent surrounding them during their time in college. Freeman’s accuracy can get him in trouble at times but his arm strength is something that cannot be ignored. The Jets will likely try to find a way into Mark Sanchez, but if they are unable to trade up, Freeman seems like the pick.

SHOULD TAKE: Freeman

OTHER POSSIBILITIES: Maclin, Harvin

#18 Denver Broncos University of Tennessee DE Robert Ayers
Having taken Aaron Maybin with their first pick, the Broncos use this pick to take another player capable of rushing the passer. Ayers could play either defensive-end or an outside linebacker position opposite of Elvis Dumervil. The Broncos could look at linebacker or the #2 cornerback Vontae Davis.

SHOULD TAKE: Vontae Davis

OTHER POSSIBILITIES: Davis, Cushing, Maualuga

#19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Georgia Tech University DE Michael Johnson
With the pick I can see the Buc’s going in a handful of different directions. For one, I think if Josh Freeman falls past the Jets, the Buccaneers would be hard-pressed to pass on him. In addition, they could be tempted to take Jeremy Maclin as a way to get another threat on offense. If they look past Maclin and if Freeman is gone, I see the Bucs focusing in on three defensive players: USC LB Brian Cushing, Mississippi DT Peria Jerry, and Georgia Tech DE Michael Johnson. In the end, I see the team going with Johnson, a freak of an athlete who can put tremendous pressure on the quarterback. At 6’6”, 265 lbs, the mid 4.6 40 he possesses is quite impressive. He has great lateral quickness and closing speed, he gets into trouble at times with poor technique as he can at times solely rely on his speed. The Bucs could create a formidable pass rushing duo with Johnson and Gaines Adams.

SHOULD TAKE: Brian Cushing

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Cushing, Maualuga

#20 Detroit Lions University of Connecticut OL William Beatty
After passing on the elite left-tackle prospects at the top of the draft, the Lions are now in a position where they can grab a very good prospect to protect #1 pick Matthew Stafford. Beatty possesses light feet that allow him to get into good blocking position quickly. Strong initial contact and good fundamentals could allow Beatty to project as a starting left-tackle. This move would also allow the Lions to move Jeff Backus to guard, which would further improve the team’s offensive line.

SHOULD TAKE: Beatty

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Eben Britton

#21 Philadelphia Eagles The Ohio State University RB Chris Wells
With Correll Buckhalter out of the picture in 2009, the Eagles could definitely use a backup to protect the team from injury to Brian Westbrook. With both Chris Wells and Knowshon Moreno on the board at this point, the Eagles could go with either one. Wells is a strong back who is capable of running through tacklers. The difference between Wells and Moreno is their ability to get to the outside. Wells is a bit faster than Moreno and that could be the difference. Concern over Wells may arise when it comes to his durability, but I think his ability will override the concern of the Eagles.

SHOULD TAKE: Wells

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Moreno, Jeremy Maclin

#22 Minnesota Vikings University of Arizona OT Eben Britton
The Vikings had a desire to improve their offensive-line in the off-season when they were preparing to make runs at both Jordan Gross and Vernon Carey. With Steve Hutchinson and Bryant McKinnie on the left side of the line, the Vikings can grab Britton and insert him at right tackle immediately. Britton has long arms and strength that keep defensive lineman away from the quarterback. His athleticism and ability to push rushers wide would allow for a quarterback like Tavaris Jackson to step-up into the pocket or take off running through the hole.

SHOULD TAKE: Britton

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Maclin, Max Unger, Alex Mack

#24 New England Patriots University of Southern California LB Brian Cushing
With Mike Vrabel and Junior Seau gone, the Patriots have a need at linebacker. Last year the team landed a great young linebacker in Jerod Mayo and if they were able to land a player of the caliber of Brian Cushing the Patriots would be filling a hole with a highly skilled player. Cushing is strong in all facets of the game. Cushing is quick to read and react and has the physical tools to do it all. Cushing can blitz the quarterback and drop into coverage, both man and zone. He also possesses strong leadership qualities and a desire to win that would fit right in with the Patriots.

SHOULD TAKE: Cushing

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Moreno, James Laurinaitis

#24 Atlanta Falcons Oklahoma State University TE Brandon Pettigrew
The current group of Falcon tight ends combined for 19 receptions in 2008. After the success of Matt Ryan in 2008, it would seem logical to give your young leader another target. Pettigrew is both an excellent blocker and receiver who gained 40% of his yardage after contact. His size and athleticism make Pettigrew a mismatch for defenders and an ideal target for his own quarterback. Pettigrew would be a great asset for both Ryan and running-back Michael Turner for many years to come.

SHOULD TAKE: Pettigrew

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Louis Delma, Peria Jerry

#25 Miami Dolphins University of Illinois CB Vontae Davis
The difference between Davis and Jenkins as the #1 corner in the draft is small and seeing Davis available at this point in the draft is a great sight for Bill Parcells. The Dolphins brought in Eric Green on a 2-year deal but could still use another quality corner. Davis has a combination of size, speed, and athleticism that can make him a strong corner at the NFL level. Davis is also a solid tackler who can bring the lumber on receivers.

SHOULD TAKE: Jeremy Maclin

OTHER POSSIBILITIES: Maclin, Rey Mauluaga

#26 Baltimore Ravens University of Missouri WR Jeremy Maclin
Maclin has the potential to go in the top 10 of the draft but with teams passing on him due to drafting other needs, the Ravens get a steal with this pick. After top receiver Derrick Mason, Joe Flacco spread the ball around several targets including Todd Heap and Mark Clayton. Maclin’s speed and ability to make defenders miss make him an offensive version of Ed Reed. Maclin would be a big time threat in the slot to begin his career and would also make a very dangerous return man next to Yamon Figurs.

SHOULD TAKE: Maclin

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Mauluaga, Percy Harvin, James Laurinatis

#27 Indianapolis Colts University of Mississipi DT Peria Jerry
The Colts lost both Quinn Pitcock (retirement) and starter Ed Johnson (off-the-field issues) this off-season and are in desperate need to find a big man to place in between Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. Jerry is capable of playing both over and next to the nose and he uses his speed to beat blocks off of the snap. Strength and size a bit of a concern, but this is often overlooked in Indi on the defensive side of the ball. Similar to former Colt DT Booker McFarland.

SHOULD TAKE: Jerry

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Ziggy Hood, Percy Harvin, Hakeem Nicks

#28 Buffalo Bills Northern Illinois University DE Larry English
In order to fill the hole vacated by Jason Peters with pick #11, the Bills passed on DE’s Aaron Maybin, Everette Brown, Tyson Jackson, and Robert Ayers. The top players on the board don’t seem to fit any needs the Bills have so they take a bit of a reach on Larry English. English has strength and long arms that allow him to shed blockers and defend the run. He’s best suited as a pass rusher and his ability to anticipate the snap allows him to use his strength and quickness to get by linemen. His tenacity and explosiveness keep him focused and into the game for the entire sixty minutes.

SHOULD TAKE: English

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Maualuga, Connor Barwin

#29 New York Giants Rutgers University WR Kenny Britt
After releasing Plaxico Burress, the Giants are left with Hixon, Smith, and Manningham as their top three receivers. Unless they are able to acquire someone like Boldin or Edwards via a trade, the Giants best chance to acquire a receiver with size is Kenny Britt. While Percy Harvin is the best receiver on the board, his diminutive size would be a concern for the team. Britt at 6’3”/220lbs, still runs a 4.5 40 and is capable of playing going up to make catches in traffic. Britt uses his hands to catch the ball away from his body and snatch the ball wherever it is thrown. His size helps him create separation from corner at the line and break tackles once he catches the ball.

SHOULD TAKE: Britt

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Harvin, Nicks

#30 Tennessee Titans University of Florida WR Percy Harvin
The Titans are currently looking at starting the 2009 season with second year receiver Lavelle Hawkins as the teams primary slot receiver. The Titans could dramatically upgrade this situation with Percy Harvin here at pick #30. Harvin falls in the draft due to both his size and the rumor that he failed a drug test at the combine, however at this point of the draft the Titans could a playmaker on the outside of the caliber of Harvin. Harvin’s speed would give the Titans another playmaker to go along with Chris Johnson.

SHOULD TAKE: Harvin

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Darius Butler, Alphonso Smith

#31 Arizona Cardinals University of Georgia RB Knowshon Moreno
Edgerin James finished the year unhappy and Tim Hightower came out of nowhere to have a productive season. With that said, the Cardinals go into the draft looking to acquire another quality running back. With Moreno being the second best running back in the draft, getting him at pick #31 would be a great thing for the Cardinals. Moreno has a burst to run the ball up the middle and the tough yardage that can keep drives alive for Kurt Warner. Moreno is physical and does not shy away from conflict; in addition he has the ability to make players miss when in the open field.

SHOULD TAKE: Moreno

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Donald Brown, Alex Mack,

#32 Pittsburgh Steelers University of California C Alex Mack
The Steelers offensive line really struggled in 2008 and as a result the team struggled at times to both run the ball and protect Big Ben. Mack is extremely agile for a man of his size and has the ability to hit linebackers and create room for his running backs. As a center at Cal, he showed he has the ability to call out protection schemes and pass block as well. He struggles at times with big physical defensive tackles, but with a veteran Steeler line he can fit in at guard in his rookie year and move over to center when Justin Hartwig moves on.

SHOULD MAKE: Mack

OTHER POSSIBILITES: Eric Wood, Max Unger, Duke Robinson

Half Jewish Sports March 5th

Julian will be out this week and next due to various commitments so I will be hosting in his stead. That's a given. If he stays things aren't getting better. The wheel only gets you so far.

We hire a new coach who understands that basketball is played with five guys on the court. A new coach who understands a basic offensive system is necessary to score and therefore win on a consistent basis. GW has no offense. GW has plays, but there is no OFFENSE! See the difference? Running the wheel or setting a high screen for whomever is playing the five every time down doesn't constitute an offense. An offense is a basic system that requires players to go through the same basic motions each time down the court with different variations substituted into the mix. GW simply runs simple set of a few individual plays. My 7th grade rec center league basketball team had a more complicated scheme.

Bobo on GW hoops cited a Greivis Vazquez quote saying GW was a disorganized team. Now if you aren't familiar with the antics of Greivis Vazquez, I assure you, he isn't one of Mayrland's best and brightest. If he can figure this out, one has to imagine any coach who plays us can easily game plan for the X's and O's master Karl Hobbs.

Step 2-Next year (My junior year)

Hire a new guy, but have a terrible rebuilding year.

If you think this is bad, just wait. Wait till we fire Hobbs Magic and hire some inept assistant manager at Maryland Eastern Shore. On the off chance we hire a coach with a shred of competence, a horrific rebuilding year is still necessary. There will be an exodus of recruits and current players, some will of course stay, but the team will be devastated. The A-10 tournament is a possibility, but the best one can hope for is a 89-41 first round exit at the hands of X. GW puts up 12 points in the first half.

Step 3-My senior year

Respectability?

Maybe. The general rule of thumb is that the minimum amount of time a coach can rebuild a program back to where it once was is three years. Now, "where it once was" is a debatable term for GW, but for sake of argument let's say a winning A-10 record and 18 wins in a season as the bar, with a tournament birth every 3 years. Now I don't think that is an achievable mark in a new coach's second year at a mid major program, but as of now GW does have some young talent. By this time Tony Taylor, Travis King, and Joe Katuka will all be more experienced and potentially well coached. I don't think a winning A-10 record is possible, but maybe 15 wins and a plus .500 record.

I'd take that. At least Longwood would seem beatable again.

The next year and beyond.

It would likely take longer than a three year period for a coach to reach his maximum expectations at a school like GW, but with the new Smith Center, which will bring the arena up from poor to somewhat respectable, although still nothing special, things could look up.

Hey Perry the Lakers Won!!!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 250px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IzAm8OGQpdg/SZuUX1heXjI/AAAAAAAAAAM/cITMGbsphvI/s320/celticssuck.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303996123384274482" />

We Like Sportz

For my first blog post, I'd like to give a shoutout to all of the diehard sports fanatics out there. type='text'>All the Giants have to do is avoid shooting themselves in the foot...ohh wait.

All I'll say is this, at least Tank Johnson was a man who knew how to handle his firearm, if not properly conceal it. C'mon Plax, you were a third round pick on one of my fantasy teams slated to be my no#1 wideout. Now you impale your own thigh fumbling around in your pocket at a nightclub.

Shame.

Safeties of the N.F.L. variety apparently aren't the ones that cause you the most trouble.

As for Antonio Pierce and Derrick Ward, remember in public school, because some of us on the show wore polo shirts to private school everyday like pussies, myself not included, when the policeman came in and warned everyone about the dangers or drugs and hanging out with a bad crowd? If I'm Roger Goodell I would make every NFL player who commits a crime and or drug offense redo the DARE program.

And I would give Plax a coupon for a free game of paintball. At the moment, most Big Blue fans are in state of complete shock and amazement at the season the team is having the year after unexpectedly winning the Super Bowl.

If you took a trip down memory lane, you could start after week two last season when the Giants defense had given up 80 points to the Cowboys and Packers, and resorted to avoiding the media's questions by blowing air horns in the locker room. This stunt was meant to deflect criticism of the team's awful defensive performance in its first two-games, and midway through Week 3, with the team trailing 17-3 against the Redskins, most Giants fans were resigned to the thought of a season without a first-round playoff loss, a mid-season firing of coach Tom Coughlin and the dream of benching our quarterback Eli Manning. Most fans were ready to quit on defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, and could not wait for the season to end. But than a funny thing happened to this team. They started playing with an "Us against the World," mentality and went on to beat the Skins in that game with the famous defensive stop of Gibbs' Skins on the one-yard line for four straight plays.

Since that emotional victory, the Giants have gone 24-5 which includes their playoff victories last season, and their "loss" to the Patriots in week 17 of last season. They are doing what the last two unexpected Super Bowl Winners could not do; repeat. The 2001 New England Patriots were the unexpected AFC representative in the 2001 Super Bowl in Tom Brady's first full season. We all know the magic they displayed against the greatest show on turf and Vinatieri's kick could have propelled them the next season to greater heights, but instead they crashed back to earth (albeit for just one season) going 9-7.

The 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers were led to the Super Bowl with a superb running attack, stellar defensive play and the mistake-free execution of rookie quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. They went on the road and defeated the 3,2,and 1 seed in the AFC (all on the road) before dismantling the Seahawks in Super Bowl XL. Most figured Big Ben would be able to replicate the success they had in the playoffs with the core nucleus returning the next year. What transpired, though, was an 8-8 season with no playoff berth for Cowher's crew.

Why bring these two teams up as examples? They personify the difficulty level of repeating the next season the way the Giants have at the moment. Only twice in the past 18 years have teams posted a record of at least 10-1 the season after a Super Bowl Victory. The 2004-05 New England Patriots and the 1998-99 Denver Broncos, both of whom went on to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.

Not much is certain in today's NFL, and parody runs amuck week in and week out, but ths year one thing has remaine constant: Even with the losses of Strahan, Umenyiora, Wilson and Mitchell on the defensive side of the football, the Giants as a unit have had the depth and consistency to withstand these losses and are in a position to do what has been done just seven times prior; Repeat as NFL Super Bowl Champions.

Half Jewish Sports episode 10

We regret to inform you loyal listeners that our show today will not start until 4:30 today due to Production maintenance taking place at the station.

We will though spend the majority of the afternoon previewing the GW Basketball season, giving our final predictions and discussing the baseball hot-stove, the upcoming NFL week and finally some discussion of the NBA which we have not done yet this year.

We will be hearing from Steve "Herve" Hadley at 5:40 to give his final take on both the Men's and women's season as well as all other things GW basketball.

Please tune in at the SPECIAL TIME: 4:30 p.m. for a shortened version of Half Jewish Sports at gwradio.com

Yankees Offseason Plan

Obviously, the Yankees had a down year. Of course, 89 wins is nothing to scoff at. Chien-Ming Wang missed more than half the year, as did Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy (who struggled when they were up anyway). Andy Pettitte pitched the second half of the year with a bad shoulder. A-Rod had a down year and missed a few weeks, Hideki Matsui missed much of the season with a balky knee. Johnny Damon crashed into the outfield wall and missed a few weeks. Brian Bruney missed much of the season. Joba Chamberlain missed a month. Robinson Cano had a terrible season, as did his BFF Melky Cabrera. Let's put it simply; Sidney Ponson, Darrell Rasner, Dan Giese. They started 38 games for this team combined. So with all that said, 89 wins isn't too bad. But missing the playoffs is inexcusable and it's time for this team to retool. With that said, here is my realistic expert plan to fix the team for next year and beyond.

Lineup

LF Johnny Damon

SS Derek Jeter

DH Hideki Matsui

3B Alex Rodriguez

RF Xavier Nady

C Jorge Posada

1B Nick Swisher

2B Robinson Cano

CF Melky Cabrera/Brett Gardner

Bench

Melky Cabrera/Brett Gardner

Jose Molina

Cody Ransom

Nick Punto

Starting Rotation

C.C. Give them each 6 years and blow them out of the water with the offers. 6 for 150 for Sabathia. Derek Lowe would also be a nice piece for the next few years. Give him 3 for 48. I am not married to the idea of Lowe if he wants more than that. I am just as willing to plug in one of the young starters we have in AAA. The amount of money they are going to gain from the new stadium and the contracts that they will be rid of this offseason should leave more than enough money for these players. These simple moves must be done in order to create a new dynasty. The core is there. There are very few spots open on the 25 man roster. It's time to return to glory.

P.S. I wrote this 2 1/2 hrs before the Yankees traded for Nick Swisher. Some changes have been made accordingly.

Star Studded Episode 9

In the spirit of the presidential election, all of you will want to vote for Half Jewish Sports tomorrow and tune in as we have a star studded show.

For the first hour tomorrow, we are pleased to join former GW President Steven Joel Trachtenberg for a discussion about his new book "Big Man on Campus," as well as discuss what it was like to preside over the University during the Jarvis era as well as the Hobbs era and what his take is on athletics in college.

We than will be joined for the second hour of the show by GW's Associate Athletic Director Dominic Perno who will discuss the upcoming GW season as well as the schedule, Smith Center renovations and any question we receive from listeners during the second portion of our show.

Please email any questions you have for either guest to jayg33@gmail.com and tune in tomorrow at 4 PM at gwradio.com

Half Jewish Sports Episode Eight

We have quite a different look for you today as we have multiple guests and will spend the second half of the program bringing you live-coverage of todays GW men's Open Practice.

At around 4:15 we will be joined by Worcester Academy Head Coach Edward Reilly to discuss one of GW's newest recruits for the 2009 season Damon Warren. I know the Yankees sucked this year. Our offense was horrible. A-Rod and Giambi couldn't hit with RISP. Our rotation usually had guys like Darrell Rasner and Sidney Ponson in it and Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes combined to win 0 games. And yet, we finished with the same record as the New York Metropolitans. And we played in arguably the best division in baseball history. So I'm over it. I've been prepared for my first October without baseball since 1994 (and that was only because of a strike) for a while now.

Mets fans are not over it (cough...Julian). And when I say, Met fans are not over it, I mean they can't stomach the fact that they went out and got Johan Santana, paid him more than any pitcher ever, had him pitch a Cy Young caliber season, and had the team collapse for the second straight season in September. I asked Julian today if he was watching the Brewers-Phillies game today. His response? "Nah too soon." Nah too soon indeed. I completely understand where he's coming from. If I had a bullpen that contained such luminaries as Luis Ayala, Pedro Feliciano, Scott Schoenweis and Aaron Heilman, I might not want to watch playoff baseball either. If I could give a struggling Mets fan one piece of advice, it would be to get over it. Clearly this team was not built for October. There's a reason your team hasn't made the playoffs two years in a row. He was just signed to a four year contract extension. Have fun with Omar!

Half Jewish Sports October 2nd (Episode 4)

We have got quite a show for you this Thursday afternoon from 4-6 PM. It's decided that Mac is the brains of the operation, Dennis is the looks, and Charlie is the wild card.

I'm like Charlie. I'm the wild card. I picked the Astros to win the wild card with Brian Moehler as their number two starter. I picked Kevin Craft and UCLA to pommel BYU with an aerial assault that would make Texas Tech look like Auburn. It's so crazy it just might work.

It didn't.

For the record, If I would have known Julian was actually counting the picks and that this was a season long competition, I would not have picked the Astros to go to the post season. That being said, there is still no assurance that I will not make totally idiotic picks in the future. Also, I'm not exactly proud of my BYU UCLA pick, however UCLA probably had a better chance of winning that game than the Astros do of playing October baseball.

Half Jewish Show Interviews

We finally discovered how to upload audio onto the site and have begun posting audio from the first two weeks of the show.
